About the Book

The monumental work in Egyptology…

Easton Press is pleased to announce a stunning facsimile of archeologist Georg Moritz Ebers' landmark two folio volume illustrated set, Egypt: Descriptive, Historical and Picturesque – a gorgeous Deluxe Limited Edition re-created from rare pristine volumes of the original 1878 and 1879 English language edition.

The Deluxe Limited Edition of Georg Ebers' Egypt is strictly limited to exactly 800 hand-numbered two volume sets.

Lavishly Illustrated Victorian Egyptology

Few in the 19th century knew ancient Egypt as well as author and archeologist, Georg Moritz Ebers – and no one did more to shape the public's fascination with the land of the Pharaohs. In addition to his archeological work, Ebers wrote hugely successful historical novels based on Egyptian lore, and in 1878 he produced the grand two full folio-sized volume illustrated set, Egypt: Descriptive, Historical and Picturesque.

Part history, part travelogue, Egypt takes the reader from the birth of Nile civilization to 19th urban Cairo, bringing both the ancient past and 19th century present to life with hundreds of illustrations -- including many full-page 11” x 14” woodcuts – by the likes of the great Lawrence Alma Tadema and the brothers Ernst & Maximilian Weidenbach, artists renowned for their meticulous portrayal of Egypt and Egyptian antiquities.
