On the 150th Anniversary of the birth of Rudyard Kipling…

He is one of the giants of English literature, a writer of such astonishing imagination, curiosity, observation, and stylistic and narrative gifts that he is both hugely popular with ordinary readers and deeply revered by such literary masters as T.S. Eliot and Henry James.

And Rudyard Kipling's unique genius was so versatile that he left classics in every form and genre he attempted, from poetry (“Gunga Din” and “If--”) to the novel (Kim), the short-story (“The Man Who Would Be King”), and even children's tales – including the beloved Just So Stories.

Now, Easton Press is proud to present: Rudyard Kipling's JUST SO STORIES, an exclusive leather-bound Collector Edition vintage recreation of the beautiful 1912 deluxe illustrated edition.
The landmark edition illustrated by Kipling and Joseph Gleeson.

Regarded as one of the greatest children's books ever, Just So Stories began as bedtime stories for Kipling's daughter, Effie, fantastically imaginative and witty tales that the young girl would not allow to be altered even by a single word. “They had to be told just so,” Kipling explained. “Or Effie would wake up and put back the missing sentence.”

Conjuring up distant lands, exotic jungles, and delightful insights into people and animals, Kipling creates magical accounts of such things as how the lazy camel got his hump and the curious baby elephant got his long trunk, the origin of the alphabet, and why the cat remains free and walks by himself.

A magnificent recreation of the most famous of all illustrated editions of this classic, the Collector Edition Rudyard Kipling's JUST SO STORIES features black-and-white illustrations by Kipling himself – who was a nephew of the legendary Pre-Raphealite artist, Edward Burne-Jones – and the now renowned 12 color paintings of American artist Joseph Gleeson.

The 1912 Illustrated Kipling in a magnificent Collector Edition.
