About the Book

The immortal adventure in the rare lavishly illustrated 1873 first English edition.

He is called the “father” of Science Fiction, and Jules Verne's Extraordinary Voyages books have for a century and half inspired the artists and authors who create modern science fiction and fantasy.

And not only them: great scientists and engineers have chosen their professions under the spell of imaginative and thrilling but scrupulously researched adventures such as Verne's masterful 1867 globe spanning epic, In Search of the Castaways.

Now Easton Press is proud to present: Jules Verne's IN SEARCH OF THE CASTAWAYS – a gorgeous leather-bound vintage recreation of the 1873 first English language edition of this Jules Verne classic. Featuring all of the 1873 edition's illustrations, this Deluxe Edition will be limited to exactly 400 hand-numbered copies.

The voyage around the world to rescue Captain Grant.

Written just after Journey to the Center of the Earth and From the Earth to the Moon, and just before Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, Verne's In Search of the Castaways represents the great author at the height of his powers.

The adventure begins with a half-erased document found in a bottle retrieved from a shark's stomach, a note indicating that the presumed dead captain of the lost ship Britannia, Harry Grant, is in fact alive and seeking rescue. But the only clue to his whereabouts is the latitude – 37 Parallel South. Undaunted, the rescuers set off to circumnavigate the Southern hemisphere and find the shipwrecked Captain.

The 1873 edition included 170 illustrations, many full page plates, created by Édouard Riou for the original French edition. The illustrator of most of Verne's early masterpieces, Riou perfectly combined realism and romance in his portrayals of Verne's fictional geography and fantastic imagined places.

A meticulous re-creation of the first English language edition of the Jules Verne classic, the Deluxe Limited Edition Jules Verne's IN SEARCH OF THE CASTAWAYS presents the 1873 book complete with the original illustrations and handsome typography and layout.
