The beloved W.W. Denslow Illustrated edition of 1902…

First published in 1823 as “A Visit from St. Nicholas,” Clement Clarke Moore's The Night Before Christmas was by the turn of the 20th century an essential part of a yuletide celebration.

Moore's poem had been published countless times and often illustrated, but the new century was the 'Golden Age' of book illustration and sumptuous children's gift-books, and in 1902 legendary illustrator William Wallace Denslow created the first truly 'deluxe' edition ever of Moore's classic.

Easton Press is delighted to present a stunning vintage reprint of this celebrated 1902 illustrated deluxe book: The Night Before Christmas, an exclusive Easton Press leather-bound Keepsake Edition.

The lavish 1902 edition of the immortal Christmas poem.

In 1902 W.W. Denslow was America's preeminent children's book illustrator, having created two landmark works, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (1900) with L. Frank Baum and Denslow’s Mother Goose (1901), which introduced America to children's books in which illustration was integrated with every element of the book's design to make the entire volume a work of art.

With The Night Before Christmas, Denslow was dealing with a true classic. Moore's poem had helped transform vague folk traditions about a gift-giving St. Nicholas into the now universally known story of the jolly St. Nick delivering toys on Christmas Eve in a reindeer-drawn sleigh.

Denslow brought an exuberant, original, and distinctly comic sensibility and flavor to the already traditional tale. His Santa is bright-eyed and impish with a bag of toys than includes several based on Denslow's own famous creations, including a Tin Man of Oz doll.

The Keepsake Edition The Night Before Christmas is a dazzling reprint of Denslow's 1902 book, complete with all of the original's drawings, vignettes, layout, type, and 23 full-color full-page plates.
A unique Christmas picture book in a Keepsake Edition.

The work of exceptionally skilled American master craftsmen with an uncompromising commitment to excellence, the Easton Press Keepsake Edition represents the state-of-the-art in hand-crafted leather-bound bookmaking.

The binding is of premium leather selected for beauty and permanence. The spine is braced by the traditional raised “hubs” and is embossed with pure 22kt gold.

The vivid 1902 artwork and design is brilliantly reproduced on specially milled, acid-neutral paper that will not turn brittle and crumble with age.

The pages are not merely glued but Smyth-sewn into the binding with sturdy thread – a technique of fine-bookmaking that will keep the pages intact for generations. Printed end sheets and glowing gilded page-ends add beauty and durability.

The leather-bound Keepsake Edition The Night Before Christmas is a book that will be an essential part of your family’s Christmas celebration.
